The TrainMaster Physics Engine underlying every TMTS product is designed from the ground up to be as elemental and fundamental as possible. All aspects of the physics calculations are performed on a car-by-car, if not a truck-by-truck basis. Track geometry is followed using a spline representation, for better representation of the physical steel rail. Locomotive components are modeled in great detail for full control over their behavior.
Fluid-dynamic computations are used for brake-pipe air flow and all other typical train run calculations are performed with the highest fidelity possible for a train-dynamics type model, yielding accurate tractive effort, resistance, braking and acceleration simulation that are calibrated against accepted North American standards.
For training applications, when used within the TMTS 3-D world, TrainMaster physics engine ensures realism in every aspect of the lesson at hand, whether in the yard or on the road. On its own, it is a powerful tool to test new train service design issues, as well as a unique testing ground for simulating the benefits of the latest in rail technology, such as ECP brakes, CBTC, etc.
